King’s College hosts the 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Program

April 8, 2009- King’s College’s Office of College Diversity and the Women’s Studies Department will co-sponsor the 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Program at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, in the Snyder Room located in the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center.  
 
This awareness program was started last year by King’s junior Shanna Ungate. This year’s event includes a dinner and three guest speakers: Barbara Connolly, Dick Hawley, and Penny Cunningham.  Admission is $10. Barbara Connolly, a Scranton resident, is a breast cancer survivor.  She was diagnosed at 29 years old.  She was featured in “Happenings Magazine” in the article “30- Something Local Women Find Breast Cancer Does Not Discriminate by Age.”
 
Dick Hawley is the executive director of Candy’s Place, a local support center for cancer patients, survivors, and their families.  He was a minister for 24 years.  
 
Penny Cunningham is the founder of Candy’s Place.  She started it 12 years ago after she lost her sister, Candy, to cancer.
