The King’s Players cap theatre season with production of “Anna in the Tropics”

April 17, 2008 – The King’s College Theatre Department will conclude its theatre season by performing Nilo Cruz’s “Anna in the Tropics” at 7:30 p.m. from April 23-26 in the King’s Theatre, located in the Administration Building on North River Street.

This poignant and poetic play is set in Florida at a Cuban-American cigar factory, where cigars are still rolled by hand and “lectors” are employed to educate and entertain the workers. The arrival of a new lector is a cause for celebration, but when he begins to read aloud from “Anna Karenina,” he unwittingly becomes a catalyst in the lives of his avid listeners, for whom Tolstoy, the tropics and the American dream prove a volatile combination.

Directed by Bro. Jim Miller, C.S.C., the King’s Theatre Department brings a cast of students and alumni to the stage, including local cast members Kevin Stemple, Freemansburg (Santiago); Colin Walsh, Northampton (Cheche); Valerie Saporito, Exeter (Ofelia); and Sean Colin Hankins, Lake Ariel (Eliades).

Ticket prices are $7; students/senior citizens, $4. For more information or to reserve tickets, call the box office at (570) 208-5825 or e-mail boxoff@kings.edu
