King’s College to host lecture by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Greg Matkosky

March 25, 2009 – Emmy-nominated filmmaker and WVIA Creative Director for Documentary Film Greg Matkosky will analyze scenes from dramatic and documentary films to discuss the art of filmmaking during a presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at King’s College. The free public program is sponsored by the Parente/King’s Fund for Media Excellence.

Matkosky will identify how filmmaking’s eight principal craft components—producing, directing, acting, writing, editing, production design, cinematography and musical scoring — can combine to elevate movies beyond a profit incentive and become the ultimate art form.

The lecture, titled “Filmcraft – How Filmmaking Transcends Mass Media And Becomes Fine Art,” will be held in the Burke Auditorium of the William G. McGowan School of Business on North River Street. Parking will be available at on-campus lots.

Matkosky has written, directed, produced and photographed a dozen award-winning nationally broadcast documentary films. He most recently received a 2008 Cinema Golden Eagle Award for his biographical documentary about the life and adventures of master American illustrator Frank Schoonover.
