History of the Awards

The alumni awards were established in honor of the college's Golden Jubilee, 1996-1997.
Four awards honor alumni who distinguish themselves through exceptional achievement. These awards are conferred periodically upon King's College alumni by the president of the college from among nominees solicited from the college community as well as from the alumni. Members of the faculty and administration assist the president in the selection process.

The conferral of the Alumni Awards takes place during the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend or at another time deemed appropriate. Ordinarily the recipient must be present to accept the award.

Nominations may be submitted to the alumni office at any time. Deadline for submissions is December 31 for the awards to be given the following spring. For more information telephone the Alumni Office at (570) 208-5879, or e-mail us.

The King's College Alumni Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement

Awarded to an alumnus/alumna who has distinguished himself/herself through exceptional professional achievement.

The Robert J. Ell Alumni Award For Outstanding Service To Alma Mater

Named for Robert J. Ell '50, the first Director of Alumni Affairs who served in that position until his retirement in 1991, this award is conferred upon an alumnus/alumna for extraordinary service, dedication, and commitment to King's College.

The King's College Alumni Award for Service to Society

Presented to an alumnus/alumna who has distinguished himself/herself through selfless and caring personal commitment to benefit others.

The Leo Award

Awarded to an alumnus/alumna within fifteen years of graduation who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in his/her professional or community activities. Named for the King's mascot, it suggests the energy, pride, and sense of purpose which the recipient personifies.

With the exception of the Robert J. Ell Award for Outstanding Service to Alma Mater, Alumni Awards ordinarily will not be conferred upon current members of the King's College faculty and staff, or upon alumni who serve on the Board of Directors or other advisory councils. Exceptions to this norm may be made with the approval of the president of the college.
