STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM - STUDENT EXPERIENCES
Joyce Varela How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location? I decided to study abroad in Panama because it is my birth country and I hope to do tropical research there in the future. Why did you want to study or intern abroad? Since my freshman year of college, I knew that I wanted to expand my educational goals abroad. Furthermore, I wanted to seek this opportunity to obtain research experience in a tropical setting. What was the highlight of the experience? The highlight of my experience was being able to identify neotropical reptiles and amphibians, swimming in the Mimitibi Caves, and taking a trip to the cloud forests of Boquete, Panama. What surprised you the most? Since my experience took place over the summer, I was surprised by how much I was able to learn in just a few weeks. When the program was over, I did not want to leave!! How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career? My study abroad experience has given my major a new meaning by allowing me to share my experience with other students in the environmental program. As for my future career, this experience will complement my search for graduate programs and job opportunities. What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad? If you have a desire to study abroad and would like to expand your college experience in a foreign country, go for it. You will forever remember it! |
