STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM - STUDENT EXPERIENCES
Ann Kaluzavich How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location? I selected my Study Abroad location of John Cabot University in Rome , Italy with a great deal of help from the Study Abroad Program and Mrs. Farmer. Personally, I knew I wanted to go to Italy , but she really helped me narrow down my choices and gave me a lot of information so I could pick the school best for me. Why did you want to study or intern abroad? I wanted to study abroad for several reasons. First and foremost, I wanted to do something independently so I could grow as an individual. I had never done anything like this away from my family and friends. I also had a strong desire to travel, meet new people, and become immersed in a new culture. What was the highlight of the experience? The highlight of my experience was the last week when I realized that I had successfully done everything I wanted to do and much, much more. I was so happy that I conquered fears, made great friends, and traveled all over. What surprised you the most? I surprised myself the most. I climbed a tower of 441 steps in Siena and jumped off a 40 foot cliff in Ponza, and I am, or was, afraid of heights. I put myself out there day in and day out to make the most of this experience. How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career? This experience has greatly affected my major and future career. As an English Writing major, this has definitely given me better perspective and surely some great writing material. I now better understand from where others are coming and appreciate the differences in people. My future career includes my pursuit of law school. I think this eye-opening experience has taught me countless lessons that I can apply towards this difficult goal. Determination, independence, strength, confidence are just a few of the qualities I gained and/or enhanced through studying abroad. What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad? DO IT! Don't let uncertainty, anxiety, or even money stop you from this life-changing experience. You cannot put a price on what you gain from this. Put yourself out there totally and completely. At first, it is difficult regarding homesickness and just being purely overwhelmed. However, that is soon overcome with great people and experiences. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to contact me. |
