STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM - STUDENT EXPERIENCES
Andrea Hochstuhl How did you select your Study/Intern Abroad location? I selected Ireland because of my Irish heritage and I really didn't want to live in a big city all by myself. Galway , Ireland to me seemed like a “homey environment.” Why did you want to study or intern abroad? I really wanted to take advantage of this life time opportunity. I wanted to see if I could adapt to the cultural differences and adjust to the changes. I thought it was a big way to test myself in the real world before I graduated from King's. What was the highlight of the experience? The major highlight of my experience was traveling to different places within Ireland . I was unable to travel outside of Ireland because I was only there for five weeks, but I really enjoyed the traveling I did. My three favorite places included the Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands and Dingle Peninsula . The scenery was gorgeous and my pictures do not give any justice. What surprised you the most? The Irish people were extremely friendly and seemed very interested in getting to know about the American culture. So my biggest surprise was that many local people went out of their way to be nice and did not get irritated when my friends and I asked touristy questions. How has (or how might) this experience affect your major and future career? I adapted very well in Ireland . So I believe my experience shows my future employer that I am comfortable in any situation, and I can adapt and adjust to different things. What would you tell students considering studying or interning abroad? Definitely take advantage of the opportunity! I only went for five weeks and that was perfect for me because I am a “home-buddy.” So the timing was perfect. There are different universities available offering all sorts of programs. |
